Anita Cranmer is Chairman of Better Connected Beaconsfield and since April 1st the Executive Unitary Councillor on the newly formed Buckinghamshire Council. She sits as the Cabinet member for Education and Skills and oversees 234 schools in Bucks with a budget of £700m. She says it is a challenging and wonderful job which engages her with the very heart of care for our children in the County.

Better Connected Beaconsfield was founded with a Bucks Council grant which she secured through the Local Area forum in 2018. It was founded as a group to connect socially isolated and lonely people to the many activities in the town. They enlisted an able staff director and soon formed themselves into a small charity.

Their goal was to liaise with GP surgeries, GDPR allowing, thus furthering their contacts. Some of the Trustees and valued helpers have completed training in ‘Social Prescribing’ which was fortunate because unfortunately, along came Coronavirus.

Anita has been a Councillor for 17 years and was Town Mayor in 2018-2019. Her professional background was in teaching and she worked at Beaconsfield High and Wycombe High.

Anita is a mother to 6 children who have all grown now and she has 11 grandchildren. She therefore knows a bit about juggling life and work and being organised! She also knows what makes this town special which became so clear when she was Mayor. It is the residents who care deeply about their town and their neighbours. Anita says, “It is a privilege to serve in whatever capacity; home, council, professional life and now for ‘Better Connected Beaconsfield.’”
